Trusting your intuition

We all have it — that inner voice that speaks to us when we are presented with a decision or situation. That voice is our intuition, and it can be a powerful tool in our lives if we learn to understand it and trust it.

Intuition is your internal guidance system that helps you make decisions based on your internal knowledge, wisdom, and experience. It is often referred to as a “gut feeling” or a “sixth sense.” It is often subtle, but when you pay attention to it, it can be incredibly powerful. So how do you learn to trust your intuition and use it to make decisions in your life? Here are 4 things to keep in mind:

1.Pay attention to your body – Our bodies can give us clues about what is right or wrong, and by paying attention to physical sensations, you can tap into your intuition. If you feel an overwhelming sense of dread or excitement, it may be your body’s way of telling you something. Take 10 minutes out to just sit and be mindful of body sensations.

2. Listen in silence – This is about creating a quiet space for yourself away from distractions, clutter, and noise, so you can think, reflect, and make positive decisions. It creates a space for you to intentionally listen to what your inner voice is telling you without judgement or criticism. Go for a walk or be in nature, whatever allows you to have solitude and silence.

3. Get curious. Ask yourself questions and see how you feel when the answers surface. Do the answers create further dread, or do they create calm? Sometimes questions through curiosity can give you valuable information. Curiosity is not the same as analysing. Curiosity is more about free thinking and questioning, as opposed to digging and dwelling.

4. Trust yourself. You are an intelligent human being, so don’t insult your intelligence. Trust yourself enough to reflect. You know your own mind. To be most productive, listen to what it has to say first and fully, and then do a brain-check-in with logic and reason, to ensure any decision you may make is a good decision.

When faced with a decision or situation, ask yourself if you are being reactive or productive. Taking a few minutes out to reflect can be the difference between a positive and negative outcome.
